Grade 8 Parent Information

Welcome to the Grade 8 Parent Information section of the website. This section is here to provide parents/guardians of incoming Grade 9 students with information and resources to help make the transition to high school easy.

A NOTE FROM MRS. HUMPHREYS FOR PARENTS/GUARDIANS OF STUDENTS WHO WILL BE IN GRADE 9 NEXT YEAR:

I would like to invite you to an upcoming meeting that Student Services will be having with all in-coming grade 8 students and their parents/guardians.  This is an information meeting designed to facilitate the transition between grade 8 and high school.

If at all possible, we would encourage you to attend this information session.  We look forward to meeting you and discussing whatever concerns you may have regarding your child’s secondary school education.

Please check with with your child’s school for information session dates.  I am looking forward to our conversations.

CHOOSING THE RIGHT LEVEL

One of the biggest decisions for incoming Grade 9 students is which pathway level to enter. Levels include Academic/University, Applied/College, and Locally-Developed-Workplace. To assist with this decision, GCHS had developed some resources. You can view sample course material by selecting the “Sample Course Work” menu under the Grade 8 Parent Information menu. Parents/Guardians/Students are invited to review the following letter created by the Student Services:
